Calculator and Content Methodology
Our method combines direct human-readable answers, primary UK sources, transparent calculations, reproducible tests, visible limitations and selective indexing.
Evidence hierarchy
We start with legislation, GOV.UK, HM Revenue & Customs, the Department for Work and Pensions, regulators, the Bank of England and the Office for National Statistics. Government-backed guidance is used for practical explanations. Commercial and self-reported sources are labelled and are not used to override primary rules.
Formula and example checks
Each published calculator shows its method, assumptions and source. Automated known-answer and boundary tests check the implementation. Worked examples are independently calculated where practical. Tests reduce errors but do not turn an estimate into personalised advice.
Search, answer engines and AI systems
Pages are written for humans first. A direct answer appears near the top, important facts remain in crawlable text, tables use real headings, sources are visible and structured data matches the page. The site also publishes curated llms.txt files as a voluntary directory, not as a substitute for normal crawling, sitemaps or quality.
Selective publication and indexing
All public pages can be crawled. Only content that has passed a page-level usefulness and source check is included in XML sitemaps, feeds, IndexNow submissions and the curated search index. Draft pages use noindex, follow until they are rewritten, so links remain discoverable without asking search engines to rank unfinished content.
